My Padel Journey of Resilience and Recovery
Posted on September 11, 2025 by Axel Will, Founder of PlayPadel.shop
Padel isn't just a game—it's a passion that pushes us to our limits , both physically and mentally. As the founder of PlayPadel.shop, I've dedicated my life to this incredible sport, sourcing the best rackets, balls, and gear to help players like you stay on the court.
But like many of you, I've faced my own setbacks. Today, I want to share my personal story of overcoming two major injuries—a broken shoulder in 2022 and a fractured right thumb in 2025—and how they made me a stronger player and entrepreneur.
If you're dealing with an injury or just love an inspiring comeback tale, read on!
The Shoulder Setback: From Pain to Power
It all started in 2022 when I broke my shoulder on the way to work at our own gingerbread bakery. I ran a green light (yes, not a red light) I was sidelined, staring at months of recovery. But I wasn't about to let that stop me. With the help of an amazing physiotherapist, I dove into a tailored rehab program. Daily exercises focused on building mobility and strength became my new routine.
What really turned things around? Hanging from the branches of an apple tree in our garden! It sounds unconventional, but this simple, gravity-assisted exercise helped stretch and fortify my shoulder muscles in ways traditional gym work couldn't. Combined with consistent physio, it accelerated my healing. Fast forward to today, and my shoulder isn't just back—it's stronger than ever. I can smash overheads with more power and control, proving that smart recovery can lead to even better performance.
The Thumb Twist: Adapting and Thriving
Just when I thought I was invincible again, 2025 brought another challenge: a broken right thumb. As a right-handed player, this could have been devastating. But I adapted creatively—I even practiced with my left arm while my right was in a cast! It was awkward at first, but it sharpened my non-dominant side and kept my love for the game alive.
Recovery was straightforward with rest and targeted exercises. The bone healed not just normally, but thicker and more robust than before. Now, my grip is firmer, and I feel more confident handling high-vibration shots. This experience reminded me that injuries aren't endings—they're opportunities to evolve.

Lessons Learned: Tips for Your Own Recovery
Through these experiences, I've gained insights that I apply to curating products at PlayPadel.shop. Here are a few tips to help you bounce back stronger:
- Prioritize Professional Help: Great physio is key—don't skip it! It laid the foundation for my shoulder's supercharged recovery.
- Incorporate Creative Exercises: Think outside the box, like my apple tree hangs. For padel players, focus on low-impact drills to maintain skills without strain.
- Choose Supportive Gear: Lightweight rackets like the Adidas Metalbone 3.4 (available in our shop) reduce joint stress during rehab. Protective grips and wrist supports can prevent re-injury—check out our accessories section for options.
- Stay Positive and Patient: Mental resilience matters. Practice with your off-hand if needed; it builds versatility and keeps the fun in the game.
- Listen to Your Body: Warm up properly with quality balls from our collection to avoid overuse injuries.
If you're recovering, remember: consistency wins. My story shows that with the right approach, you can return to the court better than before.
